Shantou University Medical College currently has two campuses: the original medical campus in the historic center of Shantou city, and another modern campus shared with the main campus of Shantou University in the northeastern suburbs. The majority of our students spend their first few years at the main university campus, and carry on their specialized training and research activities using the extensive facilities at our original medical campus site in the heart of the city. There are regular, free shuttle buses running between the two campuses.

A new SUMC teaching facility located on the main campus has been completed and put into use. The new Medical Education Center, designed by Herzog & de Meuron Basel Ltd, covers an area of approximately 50 thousand square meters and houses modernly equipped classrooms, research laboratories, computing rooms and cutting-edge facilities including Simulated Medical Center and Human Life Science Hall. This building achieved an incredible first place in the International category in the biennial Architectural Ironmongery Specification Awards 2016/2017, organized by the GAI in association with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). This was the first project from China to receive this honor.

Shantou is a coastal city in China's southeast Guangdong province with around 5 million inhabitants. Facing the South China Sea and the island of Taiwan, the city lies in the metropolitan region known as Chaoshan, and is conveniently situated in the proximity of several important cities including the provincial capital of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xiamen and Hong Kong. As one of the five original Special Economic Zones in China, it is still an important harbor, economic center, and knowledge hub in eastern Guangdong. The city is known for its pleasant subtropical climate, beautiful mountain, islands and shores, delicious seafood, and unique local culture.
