A SUMC-Oxford joint training program was held at SUMC on 28 and 29 October 2011. The third edition of this highly anticipated international training program focused on clinical practice and clinical skills.

Three specialists from the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit Vietnam (OUCRU) were invited as instructors for the training program, which included several presentations, demonstrations and small group discussions on various themes including clinical experimental design, experiment and statistical analysis, assessment of research papers, and bio-ethics policies.

The training program saw over 100 participants and attendants, including graduate students in clinical medicine, clinical doctors from SUMC affiliated hospitals, and several medical faculty and supervisors.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Prof. Willam Ba-Thein, director of the Shantou-Oxford Clinical Research Unit, and Dr. Frieda Law, SUMC consultant of the Li Ka Shing Foundation at SUMC.

After completion of the two-day program, certificates were awarded to the participants by SUMC Dean Jiang Gu.

The SUMC-Oxford training program is organized periodically by the Shantou-Oxford Clinical Research Unit (SOCRU), an academic collaboration project between SUMC and Oxford University founded in 2010 with the support of the Li Ka Shing Foundation.
