Technion Delegation visits SUMC

On December 17, SUMC received a delegation from Technion - Israel Institute of Technology led by Prof. Aaron Ceichanover, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry and Prof. Eliezer Shalev, Dean of Faculty of Medicine. They were warmly greeted by Dr. Frieda Law, Executive Director of Li Ka Shing Shantou University Foundation and Consultant of SUMC, Dean Junhui Bian, Vice Dean Dongyang Huang and several senior research fellows of SUMC.

During the meeting with the delegates, Dr. Law and Dean Bian briefed on the recent developments and some highlights of scientific research at SUMC. Prof. Hao Zhang reported on the ongoing collaborative research in tumor with Technion and the current research projects in his laboratory, followed by the presentations delivered by Prof. David Kelvin, Prof. Min Su, Prof. William Au, Prof. Guojun Zhang and Prof. Jiang Gu on the recent research advances that their respective laboratories have achieved. Afterwards, the delegates accompanied by Dr. Law and Dean Bian was given a tour of the Pathology Laboratory. In addition, Prof. Aaron Ceichanover was appointed as an Honorary Visiting Professor of SUMC. This visit is beneficial for enhancing mutual understanding and collaboration between the two universities.

Prof. Aaron Ceichanover won the 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for characterizing the method that cells use to degrade and recycle proteins using ubiquitin. He was the first Israeli to win a Nobel Prize in science. He is currently a Foreign Associate of the United States National Academy of Sciences and the Associate of Chinese Academy of Sciences.1.jpg
