On December 16-18, the Clinical Skills Training Center held the Session II of Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor Training Course of American Heart Association (AHA) and two training courses.

The main purpose of the instructor training course is to teach how to conduct basic life support and advanced life support courses. Seven mentors gained the qualification of AHA's BLS formal mentor. Now the Clinical Skills Training Center has 1 supervisor, 6 ACLS instructors and 14 BLS instructors, who are clinical experts from SUMC, First Affiliated Hospital, Family Medicine Branch of First Affiliated Hospital, Second Affiliated Hospital, Shantou Central Hospital, Shantou Municipal Second Hospital, etc.

SUMC is the only cardiovascular emergency training center in eastern Guangdong that owns the BLS and ACLS training qualification authorized by American Heart Association. Its establishment in 2011 marked the adoption of international standards for cardiovascular emergency training at SUMC. SUMC has the right to carry out basic life support and advanced cardiovascular support courses of American Heart Association, issue the American Heart Association course certificate to those who can pass the exams and undertake the technical training related to regional and local life emergency care.

So far, the Center has organized 29 BLS sessions with 651 participants, among whom 644 have passed, and has held 18 ACLS sessions with 123 participants, among whom 110 have passed. The participants included the medical staff from the hospitals in Shantou, Shenzhen and Yunnan Province. The courses are conducted in strict accordance with the requirements of the American Heart Association, using the latest versions of the standardized textbooks and conducted according to the ratio of 1:6 of instructors and trainees and 1:3 of models and trainees. Replying on a systematic, standard and scientific training system, the professional AHA platform and the domestic first-class simulation training equipment and professional mentors, the Center will undertake more first-aid training, thus contributing to better services for the patients.
