This year, the winners of the SUMC Outstanding Service Award for Overseas Faculty and Staff were Prof. Yi Guan and Dr. Patrick Tan. At the awarding ceremony on December 22, the winners received the trophy, certificate and a document confirming the bonus amount from Dr. Frieda Law, Representative of LKS Foundation at SUMC. Dr. Law expressed gratitude to Prof Yi Guan and Dr. Patrick Tan for their great contributions to the development of scientific research and education at SUMC respectively, on behalf of SUMC and its Executive Dean Junhui Bian who was on a business trip. Vice Dean Danian Qin, HR Director Prof. Ping He, Teaching Director Prof. Haibin Chen and Vice Director for Research Prof. Fen Yao also attended the ceremony.

In the past 15 years, Prof. Yi Guan and his team have made internationally remarkable achievements in the field of emerging infectious diseases, having implemented a series of international cooperation projects and published a number of SCI papers in Nature, Science, PNAS, Journal of Virology and other leading international journals. Prof Guan was ranked as “Highly Cited Researcher” and "The World's Most Influential Scientific Minds” by Thomson Reuters in three successive years (2014-2016). Dr. Patrick Tan joined SUMC in 2008. Dr. Tan teaches a series of courses covering medical English, basic and clinical subjects, clinical skills for medical students, nursing students, faculties and doctors, and assists in medical education and faculty development at SUMC.
