As the Accreditation Review Committee of China Chest Pain Centers officially announced the list of fifth-group accredited chest pain centers in China on November 3, 2017, the Chest Pain Center of SUMC First Affiliated Hospital became the first nationally accredited Chest Pain Center in the Chaoshan region.

The Cardiovascular Medicine Department and Surgery Department of the SUMC First Affiliated Hospital are the most technically advanced and largest hospital departments for cardiovascular disease treatment in eastern Guangdong, with nearly 3,000 cardiac intervention therapies and nearly 400 surgical operations performed annually. In order to further improve efficiency, the Hospital has established the Chest Pain Center as a green channel for acute chest pain patients, in addition to the newly built cardiovascular hospital for effective treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The Chest Pain Center is a brand-new medical care pattern that provides urgent and severe cardiovascular patients with timely diagnosis and treatment, and a higher survival rate by establishing a first-aid network integrating internal departments (emergency, cardiology, cardiac surgery, etc.) and external parties, which is not restricted by the hospital registration, collection of charges, diagnosis and treatment processes. With the establishment of the Chest Pain Center, the time needed to open occluded blood vessels in acute myocardial infarction at the Hospital has been shortened from 130 minutes to 67 minutes. The Center has recently rescued an acute myocardial infarction patient who was in cardiac arrest and received continuous CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) for 83 minutes.

Achieving the national accreditation is a new beginning for the Chest Pain Center. In the future, the Center will keep improving and cooperate with more grassroots hospitals to benefit more acute cardiac disease patients in the Chaoshan region.
