The Associated Shenzhen Children's Hospital of SUMC was established in 1997. It is a modern comprehensive hospital in Shenzhen, a booming city and Special Economic Zone bordering Hong Kong – some 300 kilometers south of Shantou – with over 10 million inhabitants.

The hospital offers a complete range of health care services for children from birth through 14 years of age. It presently has 1,300 patient beds and 1,474 staff members, with ten internal medicine wards, eight surgical wards, one ENT ward and two wards for critically ill children patients including NICU and PICU.

As a training base for medical undergraduates and graduates, the Shenzhen Children's Hospital became an associated teaching hospital of SUMC in 2012.
