Providing effective, compassionate and expert patient care is a core responsibility of our College. We form the center of a network of several general and specialized hospitals and clinical centers across the Guangdong region where our staff carries the responsibility of treating patients and supervising clinical residents, whilst helping our students to gain relevant clinical experience.

SUMC has five affiliated hospitals in Shantou, with over 4,000 dedicated staff members and professional healthcare workers to take care of our patients, and over 6,000 patient beds. SUMC is also strengthened by five associated partner hospitals, including the largest hospital in southern China, with over 8,000 hospital beds. There are another 10 teaching hospitals in the region where our students participate in clinical training on a continuous basis.

We also actively contribute to local public health issues and preventive medicine through our alliance with the Shantou Center for Disease Control (CDC). This collaboration has recently been intensified through the founding of the SUMC Preventive Medicine Field Teaching Base at the premises of the Shantou CDC.
