On March 24, Professor Yaacov Mamane, Professor of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Technion- Isreal Institute of Technology visited Shantou University Medical College (SUMC) and attended a meeting with Professor Junhui Bian, Executive Dean of SUMC, Dr. Frieda Law, Executive Director of Li Ka Shing Shantou University Foundation and Consultant of SUMC, Professor Wenhua Liu, Dean of Shantou University College of Science, Professor Jie Zhang of Shantou University College of Engineering, and several professionals of Environmental Health and Preventive Medicine at SUMC. The main purpose of Professor Mamane’s visit to Shantou University was to discuss the cooperation in the field of Environmental Engineering.

Technion- Isreal Institute of Technology, often compared to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is the most famous technological university in Israel, and one of the most excellent technological universities in the world. It has made remarkable achievements in the fields of nanotechnology, life sciences, and stem cells. On September 29, 2013, the Li Ka Shing Foundation (LKSF) announced a US$130 million sponsorship for the joint venture between Technion- Israel Institute of Technology and Shantou University to create a new technology institute in Shantou, Guangdong. The new institute will be named Technion Guangdong Institute of Technology (TGIT) and will be located next to Shantou University.
