From October 30 to November 1, 2015, the 11th International Symposium of Ophthalmology in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of Guangdong Ophthalmological Association, hosted by Guangdong Medical Association and co-organized by Guangdong Ophthalmological Society and Joint Shantou International Eye Center of Shantou University and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (JSIEC), was held in Shantou.

Prof. Guoying Li, Secretary of Guangdong Medical Association, Mr. Yimin Lin, Deputy Mayor of Shantou, Prof. Xinhuai Sun, Deputy Director of Chinese Ophthalmological Society, Prof. Clement C.Y. Tham, Chairman of Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences of CUHK, Prof. Yizhi Liu, Director of Guangdong Ophthalmological Society, Mr. Zhenpeng Ye, Director of Shantou Health and Family Planning Bureau and Prof. Dongyang Huang, Vice Dean of SUMC, attended and addressed the opening ceremony.

The symposium gathered over 70 experts across the globe and more than 1,000 domestic ophthalmologists to exchange views and information on new technologies, new developments, and latest diagnosis and treatment standards in ophthalmology. An overwhelming response of 370 submissions worldwide was received, among which a total of 140 papers were selected and presented during the symposium.

With rich content in a variety of forms, this symposium provided a great platform for communication and cooperation in order to improve the ophthalmic services in Guangdong.
