The 13th Asia Pacific Medical Education Conference was held from January 13th to 17th of this year in Singapore. Hosted by the National University of Singapore, the theme this year was “Education to Healthcare: Contextualising Learning into Practice - Trends ● Issues ● Priorities ● Strategies (TIPS)”. The conference received 1,067 abstracts from 38 different countries this year, with around 300 researches displayed.

Drs. Fan Wu and Gang Xin, and Xian Ye and Anyi Liang of the 2010 All-English Class attended this year’s conference and presented posters on “Reverse Classroom - Another Option for SUMC’s Promotion of Self-Directed Learning”, “PBL’s Application in History Taking”, “Research on Students’ Feedback to SUMC’s Teaching Modules”, and “Research on Students’ Feedback to Clinical Skills Teaching”. These showcased SUMC’s researches on medical education and let other medical educators in the Asia Pacific region understand China’s current medical education situation. What gained the attendees’ attention was the participation of the two students, which was special because it showed the student’s prospective when analyzing a medical college’s teaching modules. Dr. Xin was invited as a reviewer, judging for the Best Abstract. During the process, she was able to discuss in detail with reviewers from other countries, exploring the thought process in medical education research and at the same time raised SUMC’s impact.

After participating the conference, our teachers and students not only got to know the trend in medical education in the world and the Asia Pacific region, but also established a good working relationship and friendship with other medical educators from the region. The attendees express their desire to share with other teachers and students their thoughts, and furthermore, to discuss the direction in medical education and also to explore possible researches in medical education.
