Dr. William Kaelin from Dana-Farber visits SUMC

On November 2, Dr. William Kaelin, Professor in the Department of Medicine  at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute visited SUMC and the affiliated Cancer Hospital for academic exchanges.

During his visit, Dr. Kaelin delivered a speech titled “The VHL tumor suppressor: insights into oxygen sensing and cancer metabolism” to the students, faculties and staff of SUMC and Cancer Hospital. Afterwards, Dr. Kaelin visited the Cancer Hospital, Cancer Research Center and Cheung Kong Scholar Lab at SUMC, and held talks with the research staff to share his experiences, insights and recent advances in his studies. He encouraged them to do research with innovation and preciseness.

Dr. Kaelin is an internationally renowned oncologist and a member of the National Academy of Sciences (US), American Society of Clinical Investigation and the Institute of Medicine (IOM). Dr. Kaelin has long been dedicated to research in tumor suppressor genes. His long-term goal is to lay the foundation for new anticancer therapies based on the biochemical functions of tumor suppressor proteins. He has recently received the 2016 Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award which is among the most prestigious biomedical awards in the world.
