Prof. Ian Everall, Cato Chair and Head of Department of Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne visited the Affiliated Mental Health Center of SUMC on May 9-10. He was warmly received by Dr. Frieda Law from the Li Ka-shing Foundation, Dr. Yongqiang Lin, Director of the Institute of Social Psychiatry at the Guangdong Mental Health Center, Prof. Qingjun Huang, Director of the Affiliated Mental Health Center of SUMC and other representatives.

The purpose of this visit was to discuss the collaborations between University of Melbourne, Guangdong Mental Health Center and SUMC-Affiliated Mental Health Center. After in-depth discussions, a preliminary framework for cooperation was worked out, whereby a one-stop training hub individuals of different levels who interact with, care for, and treat individuals with autism will be made available in Guangdong through centralized resource allocation by Guangdong Mental Health Center, establishment of the training base at the SUMC-Affiliated Mental Health Center, and adoption of the training model and techniques of University of Melbourne. Furthermore, an agreement on research collaboration between Department of Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne and SUMC-Affiliated Mental Health Center was reached to seek common progress.
