At the invitation of the Li Ka-shing Foundation, Prof. Mingkang Liu, Senior Fellow of The Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (The HKIB) and Former Chairman of China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) attended a meeting with Prof. Junhui Bian, Executive of SUMC, and Dr. Frieda Law of Li Ka Shing Foundation on the morning of May 11.

During the meeting, Dean Bian of SUMC briefed Prof. Mingkang Liu on the philosophy of education and social responsibilities of SUMC, the background of the community SUMC serves, and the tremendous achievements gained in SUMC’s reform in the recent years as well as the five-year development program of SUMC. Afterwards Dr. Frieda Law introduced the three major charity programs of the Li Ka Shing Foundation. Prof. Mingkang Liu expressed his appreciation for the remarkable achievements that SUMC had made in medical education reform, its contribution to the society, clinical enhancement program and big data program. Then they exchanged views and opinions on how to develop students’ abilities in an all-round way and how to better contribute to promoting medical reforms.

On the afternoon, accompanied by Dr. Frieda Law, Prof. Mingkang Liu paid a visit to the Hospice Center at the First Affiliated Hospital of SUMC, warmly received by the Director Xuerui Tan and the Party Secretary Limin Ou of the hospital. Prof. Liu expressed his admiration for the Li Ka Shing Foundation’s commitment to the charity cause as well as the active role of the First Affiliated Hospital in promoting the charitable activities. He also encouraged the hospice team to keep paces with the times, to enrich the connotation of hospice service and to seek greater social benefits.
