Dr. uval Shaked and Dr. Amir Orian from the Rappaport Medical School of Technion- Isreal Institute of Technology visited SUMC between May 12 and 13 to engage in academic exchanges. They were warmly received by Prof. Junhui Bian, Executive Dean, Prof. Dongyang Huang, Executive Vice Dean of SUMC, and Dr. Frieda Law from the Li Ka Shing Foundation. During the visit, in-depth discussions on collaborative research were held between the two guest professors from Technion and the experts and professors of cancer research at SUMC. Subsequently, the visitors were given guided tours of some laboratories of SUMC. On May 13, Dr. uval Shaked and Dr. Amir Orian gave talks on the topics of “Gut homeostasis from fruit flies to colon cancer” and “Tumor-Host interactions: the role of the tumor microenvironment in promoting tumor growth and metastasis following anti-cancer drug therapy” respectively to SUMC’s students and faculty. This visit contributed greatly to many aspects of collaboration between the two parties, including research collaboration, joint laboratory development, talents training, and joint organization of international academic conferences.
