SUMC hosted the annual graduation ceremony on June 23 to celebrate the achievements of its graduates. The ceremony was attended by Prof. Ganggang Shi, Party Secretary, Prof. JunhuiBian, Executive Dean, Prof. Dongyang Huang, Executive Vice Dean, Prof. Maohuai Chen, Deputy Party Secretary, Prof. Mianhua Yang, Vice Dean, Dr. Frieda Law, Executive Director of Li KaShing Shantou University Foundation and Consultant of SUMC, other leaders from SUMC and its affiliated hospitals, faculty representatives, and all the graduates.

Ten students were honored with “Excellence Awards” for their exceptional dedication to their studies at SUMC. The international student Jordan Wu who came from UK and had obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from California State University, Northridge prior to his studies at SUMC, was awarded the 2013 Guangdong Government International Student Scholarship.

The first batch of 33 students of the English-based medical program all graduated this year. Among them two students will pursue their doctorate degrees in Shanghai Jiaotong University and Central South University, and the remainder will move on to residency and clinical practice.

In his keynote speech, Prof. JunhuiBian, Executive Dean of SUMC, encouraged students to be enthusiastic and insightful and to proactively identify and solve problems. He further appealed to the students to serve the society and their hometowns with their knowledge and skills.

The ceremony was concluded with the graduation song of SUMC. With their Alma Mater’s blessings, these graduates will join the ranks of the many SUMC alumni who are serving the society.
