The Joint Shantou International Eye Center (JSIEC) of Shantou University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong celebrated the World Glaucoma Week (WGW) 2015 on March 10 with a series of charity activities for glaucoma patients in Chaoshan Area.

World Glaucoma Week (WGW) is a joint global initiative of the World Glaucoma Association (WGA) and the World Glaucoma Patients Association (WGPA). The theme this year is “Beat Invisible Glaucoma”.

On this occasion, JSIEC organized an educational lecture on glaucoma, and offered free screenings and consultancy services for more than 200 glaucoma patients from different places in the Chaoshan Area. JSIEC has celebrated the World Glaucoma Day for eight consecutive years since 2008.

JSIEC has always attached importance to disease prevention. It set up a glaucoma patients club in Shantou in 2007. So far JSIEC has received more than 100 thousand glaucoma patients and performed about ten thousand surgeries.
