2016-03-10

From March 4th to 5th, 2016, the Family Medicine Branch of the 1st Affiliated Hospital hosted the 2nd annual Capacity Building Workshop. With support from the Li Ka Shing Foundation, the Family Medicine Branch invited Dr. Clayton Dyck, Dr. Teresa Cavett, and Nurse Chrissy Rowan from the Univeristy of Mannitoba in Canada.Under the guidance of the Besrour Centre and with a basis from the first workshop last year, this year’s focused on the uniqueness of family medicine, that is, comprehensiveness, coordination, patient-centeredness, cross-discipline, and team-building. It attracted 60 attendees, more than double last year’s attendance. The workshop utilized theoretical teaching, interactive games, and group exercises, with great participation from the attendees.

Shantou University/University of Mannitoba Canada Family Medicine Center is part of the Family Medicine Branch of the 1st Affiliated Hospital. It is an on-going relationship between SUMC and Canada. The success of the 2nd annual Capacity Building Workshop adds to the rapport of the two universities and expanded the impact of the Family Medicine Branch.
