International Workshop on Health Risk Assessment, Intervention and Collaboration Held in Shantou

2016-05-06

From April 16th to 17th, Shantou University, Fooyin University, and Technion co-hosted the International Workshop on Health Risk Assessment, Intervention and Collaboration. Besides experts from the host universities, there were also experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing University, and Hong Kong University in attendance. The opening ceremony was moderated by SUMC’s Prof. William Au. All the presenters showed their newest or landmark research results and discussed topics like recognition of surrounding environmental hazards, dose-response evaluation, and human exposure assessment. The universities also agreed on a strategy, using multi-discipline collaboration between physical sciences, engineering, business, agriculture, and medicine, for future researches together on community environment and human health threats.

Since Lewis Robbins proposed the concept of health risk assessment in 1940, health risks especially population health have been the focus of governments. Health risk survey, research, and management is no doubt a high impact task for the welfare of the people. This workshop received tremendous support from the Li Ka Shing Foundation, and provided an opportunity for public health and toxicology researchers to meet and interact. Shantou TV also reported on the workshop.
