Professor Chen of the Joint Shantou Eye Center Receives Achievement Award

From March 24th to 27th, the 31st Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Conference was held in Taipei. There, Dr. Haoyu Chen of the Joint Shantou International Eye Center received an Achievement Award and gave a seminar on “Is OCT necessary in management of retinal detachment”.

The Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology was founded in 1960. It is formed by the academies of 19 member countries, including Australia and New Zealand, Japan, and Korea. It is the largest regional academy in the world. Its principle is to advance ophthalmology development in its member countries, particularly internationalized ophthalmology education.

The Achievement Award is awarded to ophthalmologists who have made good contribution in the region. This year, there are 5 specialists who were awarded this recognition. They are, Dr. Yang from Chongqing Medical University, Dr. Liu from Xiamen University, Dr. Chen from Peking Union Hospital, Dr. Jin from Wenzhou Medical University, and our own Dr. Chen.

Dr. Haoyu Chen is an attending physcian, mentor for graduate students, and assistant dean at the Shantou University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong Joint International Eye Center. He specializes in vitreous body & retinal diseases and trauma management. He has published 56 articles in SCI journals and holds 1 U.S. patent. He is the associate editor of BMC Ophthalmology and reviewer for over 20 journals, including Ophthalmology and IOVS.
