On August 11, 2016, the Children with Cerebral Palsy Care Initiative co-organized by Shantou University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, University of Pennsylvania and Washington University in St. Louis was held in Guiling Hospital, Jieyang, China. 71 teachers and students from the four universities participated in this one-week project to provide free medical services for 30 children living with cerebral palsy. In addition, the Office of Medical Aid for the Poor Project at SUMC donated a batch of medical and living supplies to them. 

The Children with Cerebral Palsy Care Initiative is one of the collaborative programs between Shantou University and the colleges and universities in Hong Kong, which is aimed at promoting development of children with cerebral palsy and increasing social support.
