The Department of Pathophysiology is a well-funded research and teaching department within SUMC. Members of the department are engaged in active scientific research and dedicate to teaching responsibilities.

One of the research interests of our department focuses on the mechanisms through which post-transcriptional control of gene expression contributes to cell development, cell differentiation and human disease, such as breast tumor progression and metastasis. Research projects also include the pathogenesis and prevention of inflammatory diseases such as asthma and allergy, innate immunity and acquired immunity in cancer, inflammation and autoimmune diseases.

Our department is responsible for the design and implementation of diversified programs and courses in pathology, physiology and immunology. In addition, we also provide PhD and Master training programs in biochemistry and molecular biology.

Members of our department maintain close collaboration with several research institutes abroad, including Pittsburg University (USA), Albert Einstein College of Medicine (USA), University of Manitoba (Canada) and the University of Hong Kong.

There are currently 9 faculty members, including 2 professors and 7 associate professors, and many well trained and experienced technical assistants in our department.
