Professor Cheng of the Texas Heart Institute Visits the 1st Affiliated Hospital of SUMC

On May 23rd, Professor Jie Cheng of the Texas Heart Institute visited the First Affiliated Hospital and came to the Chaoshan Region Pace-making and Electrophysiology Academic Salon. Nearly 100 medical personnel attended the event.

To enhance the cooperation with Dr. Cheng on pace-making and electrophysiology, the First Affiliated Hospital signed an agreement with the Texas Heart Institute, giving Dr. Cheng the title of Visiting Professor and Honorary Dean of the Cardiology Hospital, and together will work towards a Sino-American pace-making and electrophysiology training center. Dean Tan of the 1st Affiliated Hospital hoped with this opportunity, the Cardiology Hospital can attract more talent and better train junior physicians, elevating the level of the hospital.

The academic salon was divided into two parts, surgery demonstration and academic exchange. Under the guidance of Dr. Cheng, 3 patients with refractory cardiac arrhythmia was treated with radiofrequency ablation with success. He also gave a talk on the current advancement in radiofrequency ablation for ventricular arrhythmia and shared his clinical experience.

Jie Cheng, M.D., Ph.D is the Director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Research Laboratory at the Texas Heart Institute and Director and Professor of Cardiac Electrophysiology Institute of University of Texas School of Medicine at Houston.
