The Department of Medical Literature Retrieval is responsible for the teaching of professional skills for medical literature retrieval at SUMC.

Effective retrieval of relevant medical literature has a direct beneficial influence on patient care and research. To perform fruitful searches, one needs to have the required skills. Our department offers specialized courses for both undergraduates (5-year program and 7-year program) and graduate students at SUMC. Furthermore, we also offer training programs for clinical doctors and nurses.

Our courses focus on instruction of localization of articles, subject-indexing of articles, and efficient information extraction from digital libraries and online and multimedia databases. We teach students and healthcare professionals how to use commonly used national and international search engines in an efficient manner, enhancing their ability to effectively obtain, analyze and use information resources both in English and in Chinese.
