The SUMC Injury Prevention Research Center was established in September 1999 as the first such research center in China. Our mission is to contribute to the field of injury prevention and control through interdisciplinary research on factors that contribute to occurrence of injury and injury prevention.

Effective injury prevention requires a multifaceted and multidisciplinary approach. For this reason, our team includes experts from various scientific fields such as public health, forensic medicine, psychology, medical statistics and sociology. Over the years we have obtained various grants from the National Natural Science Foundation and the Ministry of Science and Technology, publishing over 60 papers and winning several research awards. Our Center keeps close contact with several local institutions such as the local public health authorities, traffic control management, hospitals and schools. In addition, we carry out social welfare work in our field of expertise, including education of the public and providing community advisory services.

Professor Li-ping Li, an expert in preventive injury research, serves as the director of the center.
