The Associated Yuebei People's Hospital of SUMC was originally founded in 1886 as the English Methodist Mission Hospital. Presently, it is the largest comprehensive hospital in the northern Guangdong area and the only "Level 3A" – the highest Chinese ranking – hospital in Shaoguan city.

Treating patients from all over the northern Guangdong region and neighboring areas in Hunan province and Jiangxi province, the Associated Yuebei People's Hospital is a key general hospital in the area. Its most well-known specialties include cardiovascular diseases, thoracic surgery, gastroenterology, gynecology & obstetrics, burn wound care and bone marrow transplantation.

The Yuebei People's Hospital has over 2,800 employees, 47 clinical and technical departments and a hospice unit, totaling 2,500 hospital beds. As an important regional medical education and research center, it became an associated teaching hospital of SUMC in 2004.
